A football agent has spoken out as reports claim Tim Steidten is looking at resurrecting a West Ham move for a January target.

Julen Lopetegui is on his way in to West Ham and must reshape not only his team but his entire squad.

Technical director Tim Steidten will be overseeing that of course.

And the pair are already working together behind the scenes to thrash out West Ham’s transfer plan for the summer window.

The Hammers will likely need at least eight to 10 new signings.

Wets Ham currently have the smallest squad registered with the Premier League at just 22 players of a possible 25.

Steidten and Lopetegui plot Hammers overhaul

Six more are set to leave on free transfers this summer too.

That leaves 16 senior players on West Ham’s books before taking into account any possible sales.

Lucas Paqueta has been heavily linked with a move to Man City.

While that would bring in much-needed funds for Lopetegui and Steidten’s rebuild, it would mean West Ham need a new attacker who can play on the left.

Especially with Mohammed Kudus keen – and expected – to play in his preferred central attacking midfield role under Lopetegui.

It was claimed earlier this week that Steidten is prioritising the signing of two new centre-backs and a forward for the Spaniard.

Now it seems a player Steidten wanted to sign in January – and who very much wanted to come to West Ham – could be back on the radar.

Agent speaks out as West Ham maintain Bergwijn interest

An agent has spoken out as reports claim Steidten is resurrecting a West Ham move for Steven Bergwijn.

If West Ham fans cast their minds back to the January window, the club were on the hunt for a new attacker who could play off the left with Paqueta sidelined for two months.

The Hammers looked at Jota, Jack Clarke and Ibrahim Osman. But one name linked throughout the window was Ajax star Bergwijn.

It was claimed that the Hammers only intended to sign one or the other between Bergwijn and Sunderland’s Clarke.

Bergwijn even spoke out saying he was open to a return to the Premier League and directly responded on links to West Ham.

In the end West Ham didn’t sign either. Or any attacker for that matter.

According to journalist Kaveh Solhekol, David Moyes snubbed those deals and instead insisted on bringing in Kalvin Phillips.

That, Solhekol claims, helped seal Moyes’ fate with majority owner David Sullivan.

With Moyes on his way, though, reports have emerged Steidten is resurrecting interest in signing Dutch international Bergwijn.

Dutch journalist Johan Inan claims not only that West Ham remain interested in Bergwijn.

Star open to move and Hammers still want him

But that the player’s agents have told Ajax – from whom West Ham signed Kudus and Edson Alvarez last summer – that their client is open to leaving.

“A month ago, his management informed the club that they were open to a move,” Inan reports in Algemeen Dagblad.

“That could be a sporting step to the Bundesliga or Premier League, where West Ham United is still interested.”

Ajax are going to be sick of the sight of West Ham and Steidten.

But how has Bergwijn done during what has been a very difficult and tempestuous season for the Amsterdam club?

What would Bergwijn bring?

The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals and laid on four assists in 27 starts for Ajax in the league and Europe.

Despite Ajax’s struggles in the league, Bergwijn has been a consistently high performer, averaging nearly 7.25/10 this season.

It is worth noting that he can play off the left, right and even as a forward or second striker. So he would potentially give Lopetegui lots of flexibility in attack.

There is no hiding the fact Bergwijn failed to establish himself during his spell with West Ham’s rivals Tottenham.

But many Spurs fans liked what they saw and felt the Dutch attacker was somewhat hard done by during his time with the club.

Certainly one to watch it seems given his agent’s rather candid admission amid the new West Ham links.

Below you can watch Bergwijn scoring a nine-minute hat-trick to give Ajax a 3-0 win over Almere last weekend.
