The agent of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus has spoken out about interest from Chelsea in signing her client.

Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax for £38 million in the summer (Sky Sports), but Chelsea were keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge before he moved to East London.

The 23-year-old has already made a big impact for the Hammers, with three goals to his name, and behind the scenes is being eyed as someone who could play as a centre-forward.

David Moyes and Tim Steidten deserve huge credit for getting a deal to sign Kudus over the line – he is a truly special talent.

However, things seemingly could have turned out very different in the summer, had Chelsea not been so focused on signing Moises Caicedo…

The Hammers beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain to the Ghana international’s signature in the summer transfer window.

And the agent of Kudus – Jen Mendelewitsch – has explained how Chelsea actually had agreed terms with her client, prior to his move to the London Stadium, as quoted by RMC Sport:

“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done. He talked with the coach but in the end it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax (£17 million). There was no counter offer. Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted. The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of Caicedo which took up all their energy.”

Thankfully for us, Chelsea were heavily invested in the Caicedo transfer because if they weren’t, we might not have been able to sign Kudus.

The Ghanaian is a superstar in the making and I cannot wait to see him blossom for the Hammers over the next few years.

Football journalist Dean Jones recently claimed that the 23-year-old has already made serious waves behind the scenes at the London Stadium.

The energy, dynamism, pace and power that he possesses will undoubtedly take us to a whole new level as an attacking team when he begins to start games on a consistent basis.

The West Ham fans should think ourselves very lucky that Moyes brought Mohammed Kudus to the London Stadium in the summer. I guess we have Chelsea to thank for the fact that the Ghanaian is a Hammer as well!
