West Ham United manager David Moyes has opened up on something that really bothers him in the modern game.
David Moyes has had to make do without a whole host of players over the past 10 days or so, with many of his West Ham first-team jetting off around the world for international duty.
It has been a troublesome two-week international break for the Hammers, although Moyes shared a huge boost in his press conference today by suggesting Jarrod Bowen could be fit for the Burnley clash tomorrow.
West Ham absolutely have to beat Burnley tomorrow, they are rock bottom of the table and have been awful this season.
Having Bowen available will be crucial to our hopes of doing just that, but the sheer volume of injury concerns we’ve picked up over there past week or so if a real worry.
Nobody likes international football outside of major competitions do they? And it’s clear to see that Moyes certainly isn’t keen…
West Ham boss David Moyes makes international admission
The Scot addressed the media at Rush Green, during his pre-match press conference this afternoon.
And Moyes responded when asked what he thinks about international breaks, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Injuries are absolutely your worst fear as a manager, coming out of an international break. We’ve had a great record when it comes to injuries at this Club this season. We’ve had almost a full squad in every game and now we’ve got players injured from international duty, and that’s a blow for us.”
“If it’s on our watch and it happens in training or in our games, then it’s part and parcel. But when they’re away with the international team then it’s more galling when players come back injured.”
It’s a fair shout from Moyes, and the past couple of weeks have been particularly troublesome for the Hammers.
However, it’s just something that all clubs have to deal with, and is the reason why we have a big squad.
The injuries suffered by Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus whilst on international duty hammer home the need for even more new signings at the London Stadium.
One particular area of weakness that West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to address is his centre-forward department.
Hopefully we see a new striker arrive at the London Stadium in the January transfer window, because we cannot continue to truly on Antonio for much longer.
