Ben Johnson is being kept out of the England under-21 side by West Ham target Max Aarons of Norwich City.

The England under-21 team beat France 4-0 on Saturday and Norwich City ace Max Aarons started whilst West Ham United defender Ben Johnson warmed the bench.

The West Ham full-back, 23, has experienced a really poor season so far and has regressed badly over the past 12 months.

Johnson seems to be a shadow of the player who burst onto the scene at the London Stadium under David Moyes a few years ago.

In my opinion, it’s time for an upgrade on the right-back. And one of Moyes’s supposed targets is currently keeping Ben out fo the England under-21 side…

West Ham were recently linked with a move to sign Max Aarons, but he remained with Norwich in the end.

The Canaries are said to value Aarons at around £30 million (The Athletic) but his contract with the Canaries is due to expire in the summer of 2024.

So perhaps they will have to lower their demands for the 23-year-old defender.

Either way, West Ham should be all over Aarons in my opinion. The 23-year-old Norwich full-back has pace, power, stamina and energy in abundance. His technical ability is right up there with the best as well.

Aarons is very good going forward but he’s an extremely solid defender as well.

In Championship appearances for Norwich this season, the 23-year-old has averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per match (Who Scored).

The bonus is that he can play in both full-back positions! West Ham should not hesitate to bring Max Aarons to the London Stadium in my opinion.

The fact that he’s ahead of Ben Johnson in the England under-21 pecking order tells us all we need to know.
