Nuno Espirito Santo has selected a pretty strong XI for West Ham United’s first official pre-season match of 2026/27, with Jarrod Bowen starting alongside Taty Castellanos and Dinos Mavropanos.

The Hammers face Southend at Roots Hall in a 3pm kick-off this afternoon.

One day after Jarrod Bowen committed his future to West Ham United, the skipper starts, destined to receive a rapturous reception from those who have made the 37-mile trip to Essex.

How CONFIDENT are you that Taty and Dinos will stay beyond the summer?

Mavropanos and Castellanos also start, amid speculation over their own futures. Pablo Felipe scored as West Ham beat Colchester at Rush Green in a 3-2 behind-closed-doors victory this week.

He also features from the start. Interestingly, there is no sign of Niclas Fullkrug or Maxwel Cornet, West Ham’s other goalscorers from that Colchester clash. Jean-Clair Todibo is also conspicuous by his absence.

Keiber Lamadrid has the chance to impress on the left-hand side while Crysencio Summerville is enjoying an extended, post-World Cup break. Summerville is expected to leave before the September deadline.

A stand-out performance from Lamadrid here would do the Venezuelan’s reputation no harm at all in the eyes of Nuno.

George Earthy and Mohamadou Kante hope to cement themselves as regular first-team options in the Championship, too. They start together in the middle of the park.

The bench, meanwhile, is made up largely of academy kids. Josh Ajala, Preston Fearon and Airidas Golambeckis are yet to make their senior debuts, though that could change in the near future.
