Jarrod Bowen’s form at West Ham United is stirring a debate amongst the fan base.
When discussing Bowen at West Ham, context and perspective must be applied. The forward is a legend and has largely carried the team for a large part of his time at the club.
The 29-year-old has scored eight goals this season while registering four assists. Indeed, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would be in much deeper trouble without him.
Why is Jarrod Bowen struggling when we need him most?
Still, West Ham fans were unhappy with Bowen’s performance against Liverpool, prompting Hammers News to ask our subscribers across TalkingPoints whether they’d like to see him dropped.
West Ham fans debate Bowen’s starting position
Some of our subscribers could not believe it was even a debate, such has been Bowen’s importance to the cause.
One subscriber wrote: “I cannot believe that this topic is up for comment. Jarrod Bowen has worked so hard for our team and shouldn’t we be getting behind them instead of criticising them. Of course we are all down about the Liverpool result today but how do you think the players feel. Let’s be positive.”
Over on our Facebook page, however, the response was slightly different.
Several supporters admitted it was perhaps time for Nuno at least consider it.
One fan wrote: “No one is safe – if he is not performing then bench him.”
Another added: “It’s getting close.”
“No one is bigger than the team,” wrote another supporter. “What has happened to Bowen?! He was dreadful last week not much better today. He seems like he’s got the worry of the world on his shoulders.”
“He needs to find form and sharpish,” claimed another. “Might as well not be on the field as he is now. Pick a one word description: ‘ordinary’, ‘pointless’, ‘ineffectual’.”
“He should be dropped,” was another comment.
We all love Jarrod Bowen – but is anyone actually undroppable? 🤔
Let us know where YOU stand on what is becoming the great debate – and why!
Previously, the idea of dropping Bowen would have been unthinkable. It’s hard to imagine he will suddenly come out of the team, but the fact it’s an increasing debate does underline his struggles.

Who could replace Jarrod Bowen at West Ham United?
Well, here is the problem. Adama Traore is the most natural replacement for Bowen and, frankly, making that change would surely be to the detriment of the team.
Traore hasn’t impressed West Ham fans since he joined the club and it would be foolish to actually suggest he should replace Bowen. In fact, it’s hard to entertain the idea of Traore replacing Bowen with a straight face.
That, however, further exposes the problem. There simply isn’t another convincing option behind Bowen, who has struggled in recent weeks despite putting up some impressive numbers.
