One West Ham man proved why David Moyes hardly ever plays him with awful Europa League performance vs Backa Topola

West Ham beat Backa Topola in the Europa League tonight despite trailing early on in the second-half.

The West Ham players were definitely not anywhere near their best in their Europa League Group A opener tonight, but the boys got the job done in the end.

Hammers boss David Moyes did make nine changes from the team that lost 3-1 against Manchester City on Saturday though, so our play was always going to be a bit clunky.

And one player failed to impress one little bit unfortunately – Pablo Fornals.

The Spaniard has barely played over the past year or so and tonight made it very clear exactly why…

West Ham man had a shocker against Backa Topola in the Europa League

Fornals was dragged off midway through the second-half after a really poor display against the Serbian side tonight.

The 27-year-old’s passing was miles off and he just looked like somewhat of a spare part.

Over the Hammers’ last four Premier League games, Moyes has given the Spaniard just 39 minutes action (Transfermarkt), and if tonight’s performance was anything to go by, he won’t be getting much more game-time over the next couple of months.

Fornals was slow and cumbersome and in truth, he looked completely dejected and devoid of confidence.

Pablo will be out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer of 2024, and it was recently claimed that he will not take up the option he has to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

After Fornals’ performance for West Ham in the Europa League against Backa Topola tonight, I think it’s pretty clear that his time at the London Stadium is coming to an end.

And that’s a real shame because the Spaniard is a hugely popular figure at the club.
