Ian Wright has been pleased with Nuno Espirito Santo for including Callum Wilson in the starting eleven as West Ham play host to Brighton.

Nuno has opted to leave Wilson out of his eleven in recent games, with Lucas Paqueta and Crysencio Summerville playing behind Jarrod Bowen.

However, Summerville moves to the bench for West Ham, and Wilson has been tasked to lead the line.

Summerville out, and Wilson in…

Ian Wright singles out Callum Wilson for praise

Wright pointed out the fact that Nuno has been omitting the English striker in recent games.

That has been to the manager’s own detriment as the Hammers have failed to pick up wins and find themselves in 18th place.

West Ham should have BEATEN Brighton last time! 😮‍💨

What must Nuno do to get a win tonight?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United has his strike at goal defended by Lewis Dunk of Brighton & Hove Albion during the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United at Amex Stadium on December 07, 2025 in Brighton, England.

Going into the Brighton game, they are five points away from safety and in case Nottingham Forest get anything from their match against the Toffees, West Ham will find it even harder to finish 17th or higher if they lose on Tuesday.

That is precisely why most fans, and Wright as well, are pleased with Nuno that he has gone with a recognised number nine for this one.

Wright said on the Premier League Productions’ pre-match show: “I’m pleased to see Wilson get a start. First in five, I guess. If they get the ball into the box, he can score. He can be really important. West Ham need to win.”

What can Wilson bring to the West Ham side?

Even though Wilson is 33, he is a natural goal scorer and instinctively knows in which positions he should be.

He is known to keep defenders guessing and hopefully can muster goal-scoring opportunities against a Seagulls side that has struggled to keep clean sheets.

Bowen also moving to his preferred right-wing side would see the Hammers looking like a more potent attacking side.

Hopefully, the hosts can start the game strongly and put the opponent under pressure.

They may have to concede possession, but if they’re capable of hitting Brighton on the break, it could make for pleasant viewing for the London Stadium faithful.
