A star with just two Premier League appearances this season could be handed a shock West Ham start against Spurs as a virus in the camp spreads.

West Ham head to north London for a clash with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Tottenham have been inconsistent this season highlighted by the fact they beat Man City before getting a 4-1 hiding at Leicester last weekend.

Spurs followed that up with a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday night.

West Ham go into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with Chelsea which looked good on paper but was actually a missed opportunity against an out of sorts team.

West Ham have been boosted ahead of the game with the news that five key men are missing for Spurs while Hammers bogeyman Son Heung-min could be rested.

David Moyes has several injury absentees himself but may be able to call on star defender Nayef Aguerd if he passes a late fitness test.

As reported by Hammers News after the game with Chelsea, Declan Rice was below part as a result of a virus.

And the latest in the West Ham camp to be affected is number one goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

So a star with just two PL appearances this season could be handed a shock West Ham start against Spurs as the virus spreads.

According to a report from ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way Patreon ahead of the game, Fabianski is the latest to be infected.

And as a result Alphonse Areola has been placed on standby for his first Premier League start of the season against Tottenham.

“A virus has been doing the rounds at the club with Cresswell, Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals and now Lukasz Fabianski the latest player to go down with it,” The West Ham Way reports.

“Again, a late decision was going to be made on him with Alphonse Areola, who has recently recovered from a slight hamstring injury, on standby to replace the former Polish international should he fail to recover in time.”

Areola has made just two substitute Prem appearances this season. The Frenchman has only himself just returned to training following a hamstring injury.

Many fans believe Areola should have been made number before now. Now he may get the chance to prove it in one of West Ham’s biggest games of the season.

If Fabianski is not feeling too run down by the virus, though, one would think Moyes will still start his number one.
