Paul Merson’s seven-word West Ham barb simply is not true as he predicts more David Moyes misery at Fulham this weekend.
After a night to forget against high-flying Newcastle, West Ham attentions now turn to Fulham and putting things right.
West Ham must move on quickly from the horror show because Fulham is a game they must be looking to win.
The Cottagers will be without star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and manager Marco Silva.
They are in no man’s land in the middle of the Premier League with a European spot now extremely unlikely given the loss of their main goalscorer.
So make no mistake this is a huge chance for West Ham to pick up only their second away win of the league season.
Pundit Paul Merson has been running the rule over the weekend’s fixtures for Sportskeeda.

Less than a month ago the ex Arsenal man claimed West Ham would not be relegated as long as they kept David Moyes amid talk he could be sacked.
Now he appears to have very much changed his tune.
And Merson’s seven-word West Ham barb simply is not true as he predicts more Moyes misery at Fulham.
West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle in midweek was obviously terrible. It was one of those nights when anything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Hammers.
But make no mistake, anyone watching Newcastle’s match against Man United prior to their visit to the London Stadium will know the Magpies should have beaten the Red Devils by a similar margin.
Brighton beat West Ham 4-0 a month ago – but they too are one of the best sides in the division this season capable of beating most teams.

So those results, while clearly unacceptable given where West Ham have been the last two seasons, can almost be set to one side in the battle against the drop.
Merson is predicting a 2-0 defeat for the Hammers at Fulham.
That is his prerogative. But it is his claim that West Ham are ‘all over the place at the moment’ which doesn’t sit right.
“West Ham are struggling badly at the moment,” Merson said.
“I don’t think they were great in their victory against Southampton, but the result did paper over the cracks. They were out of their depth at home against Newcastle.
“Fulham are going to miss Mitrovic, but they have been pretty impressive this season. West Ham are all over the place at the moment, and I’m going to back Fulham to win this game.”

That is a lazy, throw-away comment based purely on what happened against Newcastle.
The Hammers were not great against Saints, granted. But they looked pretty defensively solid and together as a team.
It was the same in the 1-1 draw in the game before that against Aston Villa, which now looks like a superb result given the form of Unai Emery’s side since.
There has also been the 4-0 win over Forest, victory over Everton and draws with Chelsea, Newcastle and Leeds since the turn of the year.
If Merson wants to join in the West Ham pile on then that’s up to him.
But it would be lovely for the Hammers to go out there at Craven Cottage and silence the noise from the likes of him and others.
A siege mentality is needed at West Ham until the end of the season. And Merson’s comments should be used to fuel the fire.
