There has been a new relegation battle twist with West Ham’s survival rivals Wolves set to lose star player to ‘huge ban’ after a spit charge.
West Ham are in the thick of the tightest Premier League relegation battle ever alongside the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and seven other clubs.
The Hammers are only outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference.
But even that took a pounding as a result of West Ham’s damaging 5-1 home defeat to Newcastle in midweek.
West Ham currently sit 15th in the table with Wolves one point and one place better off. But just three points separate seven clubs from 12th down to 18th.

West Ham fans have been nervously checking the fixtures and results of the other clubs in the mix for demotion to the Championship.
Wolves have some tough fixtures on the horizon and have won just once in seven games.
Now there is a new relegation battle twist with West Ham’s survival rivals Wolves set to lose a star player to a ‘huge ban’ after a spit charge.
West Ham fans are well aware of Daniel Podence after he scored the winner against them back in January.
Podence is Wolve’s top scorer this season with six goals.
So it is potentially huge news for the relegation battle that he may now miss much of the rest of the campaign.

New relegation battle twist with West Ham’s survival rivals Wolves set to lose star player to ‘huge ban’ after spit charge
Podence appeared to spit at Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson after they clashed on the weekend and the Wolves ace has now been charged by the FA.
The likes of The Daily Star claim Podence is facing a ‘huge ban’ with the offence carrying a mandatory six-match suspension.
Wolves have until April 12 to respond to the FA’s charge against the Portuguese winger. Podence’s alleged victim Johnson was shocked his opponent wasn’t punished at the time of the offence.
West Ham have already played Wolves twice so will not directly benefit should Podence be banned.
But it will clearly make the Molineux side even less potent up front for most of their remaining nine games in the run-in.
