Every word Jurgen Klopp said on ‘top, top, top’ West Ham and old boy David Moyes as the Liverpool boss prepares for set piece test.

West Ham welcome Liverpool to the London Stadium hoping for a repeat of last season’s result in the same fixture.

The Hammers became the first team to beat the Reds for over six months when they won 3-2 at the London Stadium back in November 2021.

West Ham have played Liverpool twice since – at Anfield on each occasion – and were very unfortunate to lose both by the same 1-0 scoreline.

Both West Ham and Liverpool have fallen way below expectations in the Premier League this season.

Hammers and Liverpool looking more like their old selves ahead of clash

But the respective boardrooms have stuck behind David Moyes and Jurgen Klopp. And now their teams look as if they are getting back to something like their best ahead of the clash on Wednesday night.

West Ham go into the clash off the back of their best week of the season in terms of performances and results.

Roaring comebacks against Arsenal and Gent and the excellent 4-0 away win at Bournemouth has secured a second consecutive European semi-final for the Hammers and seen them take a massive step towards survival.

Liverpool boss Klopp has been speaking in is pre-match press conference (Sky Sports News 11.35am).

And here is every word Klopp said on ‘top, top’ West Ham as the Liverpool boss prepares for a difficult set piece test.

Every word Jurgen Klopp said on ‘top, top, top’ West Ham and old boy David Moyes as Liverpool boss prepares for set piece test

The Liverpool boss is concerned about the set-piece and counter attacking capabilities of the Hammers and has his say on old boy Moyes.

“Yes but you could say the same about West Ham, they have found their feet back as well,” Klopp said when it was put to him that Liverpool are finding their best form again.

“So it’s like ‘let’s see who can solve that better’… We have to still prove ourselves… We have to keep going.

“Yes we struggled with set pieces in the last game. But before that we have also been super safe on that…

“West Ham is a top, top, top set piece team as well. Against Bournemouth I think two (of West Ham’s goals) came from a set piece, two from crosses so that’s what we have to be prepared for again.

“But the ball will be on the ground from time to time and that’s what we have to be prepared for as well to make sure we can control the game.

Klopp: ‘I had a vested interest in West Ham keeping Moyes’

“Usually I don’t look that much at what happens at other clubs…. when there are discussions when things don’t go well about sacking the manager. But in this specific one I was really, really interested in it because if West Ham would have sacked David Moyes I would have been the oldest manager in the Premier League and I wanted to avoid that!

“Somebody told me that before the season that I was second oldest and I said ‘who is the oldest’ and they said David Moyes so I had my fingers crossed for West Ham – Dave has to stay.

“But I’m really happy (West Ham kept Moyes), David is a super, top colleague who is doing an incredible job and things like this (struggles this season) can happen.

“They have a good team and they show now their quality again. And when you see the line-up from the last game if they can go through a season without big injuries then all of a sudden they are able to play really good stuff like they did last season and the season before.

“So they are a super dangerous and difficult game for us definitely. So we have to be absolutely on top and make the next step, keeping at least the standards of the last two games defensively and go from there.”

Klopp is of course now the third oldest and Moyes the second oldest boss in the league after the return of Roy Hodgson at Palace.
