Eddie Howe has broken his silence on Harrison Ashby, and shared whether he will feature for Newcastle vs West Ham tomorrow.

Newcastle signed Ashby, 21, from the Hammers earlier this week for just £3 million (Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth).

West Ham did include a sell-on clause in the deal, so that was a small consolation for the East London outfit.

Newcastle vs West Ham is a hugely important game for both sides tomorrow evening, but for very different reasons.

The Hammers are deeply embroiled in a relegation battle whilst the Magpies are flying high in third spot in the Premier League table.

David Moyes will have to spring a real surprise if his team are to pick up a result at St James’ Park tomorrow, and the Scot and his players could come against a familiar old face…

Eddie Howe breaks silence on Ashby ahead of Newcastle vs West Ham

The Toon boss spoke glowingly about the 21-year-old right-back, when addressing reporters this morning.

Howe also lifted the lid on whether Ashby would feature against his former club, as quoted by the Chronicle:

“We think he’s (Ashby) a player that has huge potential. Naturally, he needs time here to progress and develop. He’s got the ideal mentor in Kieran who will help him. We wanted to bring in more strength on that side of the pitch. Both players (Ashby and Gordon) will be available. They did a couple of individual sessions around the game and trained with the group yesterday. It was a small group so they haven’t trained fully with the team but they’re fit and fine.”

I was incredibly disappointed when we sold Ashby to Newcastle, especially for just £3 million.

A worrying theme has developed at the London Stadium whereby we seem to keep losing our best young players to rival Premier League clubs.

Let’s hope that Moyes has a long-term plan to fix that.

If Harrison Ashby plays for Newcastle vs West Ham tomorrow, as Eddie Howe says he might do, we will all get a first hand glimpse at just what we’ve let go.
