Hammers boss David Moyes has delivered a major West Ham team news update for the Europa League clash against Freiburg.
West Ham manager David Moyes was forced to take drastic action this week by giving his players two days off ahead of the crunch Europa League Group A decider with Freiburg.
Illness in the Hammers camp dictated that decision.
West Ham are gearing up to take on the German outfit on Thursday night knowing a draw will seal their place in the last 16.
Despite a vastly superior goal difference, Freiburg can only finish above the Hammers with a win at the London Stadium in the final group game due to West Ham’s better head-to-head record.

A draw would mean points tallied in meetings between West Ham and Freiburg is four to one in the Hammers’ favour. That would also earn Moyes’ side a three-month break from European games with the last 16 ties being played in March.

‘Pretty much where we were’
Although he sent a mixed message by suggesting availability is much the same as it was for Fulham.
“We’ve had a few people with a bit of illness, but that’s all I can give you,” Moyes said as per the club’s website.
“The scheduling we’ve had has been difficult and there’s not much time available this time of year. Any chance we can give players to have some time to themselves, we’re going to do that…
“We’ve still got a few lingering in terms of the sickness, but I think we’re going to be okay. Team news wise, I think we’re pretty much where we were.”
Should West Ham lose, they will finish second and enter into a two-legged play-off round against one of the eight teams who finish third and drop out of the Champions League. Those matches would be played on February 15th and 22nd 2024.
