Jarrod Bowen’s difficult West Ham start has cost him a place in the England squad being announced today claims Sky Sports.

One of the biggest disappointments of West Ham’s slow start to the new season has undoubtedly been the form of Bowen.

Bowen was West Ham’s star player last season as he laid on nearly 31 goals and assists in all competitions.

West Ham were hugely reliant on the £20m man as Michail Antonio’s form dropped off a cliff from November.

Bowen was so good he made the last England squad.

The attacker has still been working hard for the team. But he has been off the pace in almost everything he does so far this term and it has cost the Hammers, who are struggling to get goals.

Bowen did look much sharper when he came on as a substitute last time out against FCSB and scored a penalty.

But Bowen’s difficult West Ham start has cost him his England place claims Sky Sports ahead of today’s squad announcement.

Sky Sports’ senior news reporter Rob Dorsett has been discussing Gareth Southgate’s impending Three Lions announcement, his last before naming his 26-man World Cup squad.

And he has claimed that Bowen will pay the price for his slow start by being dumped by Southgate and now only has an ‘outside chance’ of making the World Cup squad.

“Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Mason Mount – all remain some distance ahead of (Marcus) Rashford and (Jadon) Sancho in the England pecking order right now,” Dorsett said on Sky Sports.

“Though Jarrod Bowen’s difficult start to the season with West Ham may well cost him his England place this time, meaning he’s a long shot for a place on the plane to Qatar.”

Dorsett went on to explain that Sky Sports has been given a steer on Southgate’s thinking ahead of the England squad announcement.

And if West Ham’s star Bowen was considered for a forward role, he would likely miss out to Brentford’s Ivan Toney who, the report claims, has really impressed Southgate.
