England draw with Italy gave West Ham fans a £225 million glimpse of the future

England drew with Italy at Molineux last night and West Ham were fans were given a glimpse of what our central midfield partnership might look like next season.

West Ham ace Declan Rice started the game for England against Italy in the deep-lying double pivot alongside Southampton star James Ward-Prowse.

Interestingly, David Moyes wants to bring the 27-year-old Saints midfielder to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Sun.

In fact, the Scot is prioritising a move to sign Ward-Prowse according to high level club insiders Claret and Hugh.

He would be a truly terrific signing for the Hammers. And the London Stadium faithful got a glimpse of what things might be like next season, if we do in fact manage to sign JWP…

The Hammers and Saints stars began the game for England forming a deep-lying double pivot.

Rice was truly outstanding, as per usual. Ward-Prowse, meanwhile, wasn’t quite at the races, however.

The Sun reckons that Southampton want £75 million for the 27-year-old. After last night’s performance, that is highly questionable. It is their prerogative to demand what they want, however. He is still under contract at St Mary’s until he summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

It was just one game as well in all fairness.

Ward-Prowse was sensational all season for Southampton. He bagged 11 goals and eight assists in 42 games for the Saints.

The prospect of the English midfielder lining up alongside Declan Rice at the London Stadium next season is a tantalising one.

The 23-year-old West Ham star is one of the very best on the planet. He is the most important player available to David Moyes and is very highly rated the world over.

West Ham value Dec at around £150 million according to The Telegraph. So the Hammers could very well have a £225 million central midfield partnership next season, if everything goes to plan.

We got a glimpse of what that might be like during the England vs Italy clash last night. And whilst it wasn’t exactly breathtaking, Rice and Ward-Prowse will undoubtedly get better the more that they play alongside one another.
