West Ham insider makes crushing new Kurt Zouma claim just days after a positive David Moyes update on the injured defender.

The Hammers were dealt a big blow when it was confirmed £29 million summer signing Zouma had injured his hamstring tendon last week.

Speculation had been rife about the injury and the recovery timescale before and after the confirmation from the club. Some suggested Zouma could be out for as long as four months.

Hammers News then reported on the view of medical professionals who put a timescale of between six weeks and 12 weeks on full recovery for athletes.

Then speaking in his press conference ahead of the Burnley game at the weekend, Moyes also delivered a positive albeit brief West Ham injury update on Zouma.

But now West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh have made a crushing claim that Zouma is likely to miss the rest of the season.

West Ham insider makes crushing Kurt Zouma claim after positive David Moyes update

With Angelo Ogbonna ruled out for the season with an ACL injury the news will come as a massive blow for West Ham if accurate.

Particularly given West Ham fans had hoped to have Zouma back for the run-in and Europa League last 16.

“West Ham are hopeful that Ben Johnson will be available for selection for the match against Norwich at the weekend,” Claret and Hugh state.

“He has started training on grass this week after suffering what we have been told was a soft tissue issue rather than a hammie.

“With Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna almost certainly ruled out for the season it’s the first bit of good news we have had over the last couple of weeks.”

In fairness to West Ham they have looked pretty solid defensively when Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have played this season.

Moyes suggested he would wait to see the progress Zouma makes before deciding whether to bring in a centre-back in the January window.

But with West Ham having laid the foundations for a potentially amazing season, it will surely be better to be prepared by bringing in a new signing rather than run any risks.

We can only hope Claret and Hugh’s update is on the pessimistic side and that Zouma manages to get back for the all important business end of West Ham’s campaign.
