Much criticised star Craig Dawson has been playing on through injury for West Ham in recent games it has been claimed.
It is fair to say many West Ham fans were far from happy when David Moyes made the surprising decision to sign Dawson on loan from Watford last season.
Moyes proved he knows best, though, as Dawson turned out to be a revelation, helping West Ham finish just one win off a Champions League spot and signing permanently for a mere £2.5m.
With the arrival of £29m Kurt Zouma in the summer, many felt Dawson would slip down the pecking order.
They were right, Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna were Moyes’s first choice centre backs.
But injuries to both have seen Dawson play more than ever having been featuring in West Ham’s Europa League and cup games alongside Issa Diop prior to those big blows.
Some West Ham fans have been critical of Dawson since he and Diop became the default first choice pairing.
Just as many have been supportive of the 31-year-old, though, pointing out how difficult it must be playing alongside Diop, who has failed to show he can rediscover the form that saw him labelled a £75m monster in his debut season.
Well West Ham fans will have a new-found respect for Dawson now after it emerged the defender has been playing on through injury to help the club.

West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh first reported last month that Dawson was suffering after picking up a knock.
And according to ExWHUemployee, the former West Brom and Bolton man has been selflessly putting the team before himself ever since.
“Craig Dawson has had some unfair stick in our minds these last few weeks – especially when he has been struggling with injury himself in recent weeks but has played due to our lack of other options (this has not been widely reported elsewhere),” ExWHUemployee said on The West Ham Way patreon site.
It is the measure of the man that Dawson has made no fuss and just got on with things despite being injured.
He is a no nonsense defender and clearly a no nonsense person too.
Yes his distribution has been lacking at times of late. But that could easily be as a result of the injury he is currently carrying.
Perhaps Moyes really does need to sign a defender this month, even if Zouma is not too far away from a return.
After all Angelo Ogbonna turns 34 in May as well.
