Kurt Zouma knee surgery could keep him out for six months

West Ham United have been handed a devastating blow with the news that Kurt Zouma has undergone knee surgery.

The 28-year-old centre-back joined the Hammers from Chelsea for around £30 million back in the summer of 2021 (The Athletic).

At the time, it seemed like a great signing for West Ham. Now, bringing Zouma to the London Stadium from Chelsea seems like somewhat of a disaster.

The Frenchman was out injured for a few months last season with a knee problem, and it seems as though he’ll now be out for the foreseeable future once again.

Zouma went off injured during our last Premier League game against Leicester City two weeks ago.

The 28-year-old was limping before the game and pulled up during the warm-up, yet David Moyes still chose to start him.

And now it seems as though that decision from the Scot has come back to bite him…

Kurt Zouma suffers huge surgery blow

West Ham have confirmed via the official website that the French centre-back has undergone surgery to correct a long-standing knee problem.

Moyes will now surely be on the hunt for a new centre-back in the January transfer window.

The Scot now has only Nayef Aguerd, Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Thilo Kehrer at his disposal. That’s simply not enough, especially if he wants to play three central defenders.

It seems as though Zouma will be out for quite some time now.

Injury specialist website Top Doctors claims that it could take around six months for top sportsmen to recover from knee surgery.

Having Kurt Zouma unavailable for that period of time after he underwent knee surgery will be a really big blow for West Ham.

All eyes will now be on Moyes regarding potential new arrivals at the London Stadium in the January transfer window.
