David Moyes has delivered an update on the availability of key West Ham duo Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell for the Boxing Day game.
Antonio was the big story of West Ham’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to bitter rivals Spurs.
The forward missed the game following a positive Covid test and West Ham were dumped out of the cup in a 2-1 loss.
The Hammers dominated the game and looked good in spells with Jarrod Bowen up front. But ultimately West Ham missed their only striker as they failed to make their superiority pay.
Before the game Moyes confirmed Antonio – who has been double vaccinated – tested positive “last week”.
In light of new seven-day isolation rules West Ham fans were hoping that will mean Antonio is available to face Southampton on Boxing Day.
Meanwhile Cresswell was missing yet again following the back injury he picked up after colliding with a post during the defeat at Man City last month.
Cresswell was sorely missed again in the defeat at Tottenham as the hapless Arthur Masuaku proved nowhere near a capable replacement once more.
Speaking after the game Moyes delivered an update on West Ham duo Antonio and Cresswell ahead of the Boxing Day clash with the Saints.

“I don’t know (if Cresswell will be back for Southampton), I can’t give you an answer,” Moyes said in his post match press conference (Football.London).
“We are missing him.
“The answer (on Antonio being available) is – I don’t know.
“He has no symptoms and I have to say that he is double vaccinated. For all those things hopefully we might have him back, yes.”
It seems Antonio then at least should be back for the Saints clash.
West Ham need to take encouragement from the overall performance at Spurs. The Hammers were much more like their old selves despite the frustrating defeat.
Moyes simply must get his team to be more ruthless with their attacking play, though, because West Ham are not creating half as many chances as they were before the November international break.
