A major chance of cup glory has opened up for West Ham after an unprecedented twist but the Hammers must do their bit.

West Ham face promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup third round at the London Stadium on Wednesday night.

As a result of playing in Europe, West Ham – like last year – got a bye to the third round.

David Moyes’s side looked capable of going all the way in the competition last term but their run was halted by a harsh defeat at Spurs in the quarter-final.

The Hammers are struggling in the Premier League but are doing well in Europe having made the last 16 for the second consecutive season.

And while this season may prove to be something of a write-off in the league, the stars look to be aligning to give West Ham a great chance of ending their 42-year wait for a trophy.

West Ham are one of the favourites to win the Europa Conference League.

And a major chance of cup glory is opening up for West Ham after an unprecedented twist but the Hammers must do their bit.

Because eight Premier League clubs will be out at the third round stage of the League Cup.

Two Prem clubs crashed out of the Carabao Cup last night as Everton lost to Bournemouth and Brentford were knocked out by Gillingham.

At least six more of West Ham’s top flight rivals will fall over the next two nights after an unprecedented third round draw threw up an extraordinary number of all-Premier League clashes.

Arsenal face Brighton, Newcastle entertain Palace, Forest play Spurs, Wolves welcome Leeds and two big hitters clash in Man City vs Chelsea. Man United then take on Aston Villa tomorrow night.

The number could be even greater because out of sorts Southampton have a tricky game against Sheffield Wednesday too.

That being said West Ham must still do their bit. And it won’t be easy against an in-form Blackburn who have won five of their last six games.
