West Ham must take advantage if Leicester drop and sign their flying star Harvey Barnes as he’d be perfect and only earns £40k per week.

West Ham all but officially sealed Premier League safety thanks to the win over Manchester United on Sunday.

As a result the Hammers can now start doing some serious transfer planning ahead of the summer window.

With Declan Rice set to leave for big money, West Ham are likely to have a sizeable transfer budget once again.

But the club must ensure they get the next phase of their rebuild right.

David Moyes pledged to assemble a new-look West Ham built around a core of British players with an emphasis on young, quick, agile stars hungry to prove themselves at the top level.

That was evident when West Ham moved to pick off the cream of Championship talent like Jarrod Bowen and Flynn Downes.

But survival also means the Hammers can start to target the best players from those being relegated from the top flight.

And they don’t come much better than Harvey Barnes at Leicester City.

Barnes has stalled on a new deal at Leicester and The Sun has claimed he will be sold this summer.

Barnes is one of the quickest and most powerful attackers in the Premier League.

He can play across the front line and as a forward too.

If the Foxes drop – as is looking increasingly likely following the 5-3 defeat to Fulham – they would not be able to command as big a fee for 25-year-old Barnes, who scored twice in that game.

Prospect of Barnes and Bowen either side of a striker is mouthwatering

And a move to West Ham would surely prove attractive to the pacy attacker for multiple reasons.

The lure of London, playing in front of the fifth highest attendance in world football every other week, a major increase on his £40k per week wages and possibly even Europa League football.

The prospect of Barnes and Bowen either side a central striker would be a tantalising prospect for West Ham.

There would likely be stiff competition from other Premier League clubs. But West Ham would also be able to guarantee plenty of game time.

If Leicester do drop, the Hammers must be ready to pounce.
