West Ham United manager David Moyes may well have a surprise trick up his sleeve when our longest serving player leaves the club.
I believe that David Moyes may be planning to recruit from within when one of West Ham United’s most senior players departs the London Stadium.
The Hammers boss has a lot of work to do in the transfer market over the next six months or so, with many of our more experienced players coming towards the end of their current deals.
One player who I think will definitely leave in the summer of 2024 is Aaron Cresswell – he was actually heavily linked with a move to Wolves in the summer.
The 33-year-old has played second fiddle to Emerson Palmieri this season but as things stand, he is still the backup option to the Italian.
It is a huge concern that Cresswell is second in line to play at left-back for West Ham, especially when taking into account his woeful performance against TSC Backa Topola last week.
Moyes really should have signed some proper competition for Emerson already, but what if he’s playing the long game, and has someone from within lined up already to come in and provide cover for the Italy international?

The Hammers boss has one of the most talented young players amongst his ranks at the London Stadium right now in the form of Ollie Scarles.
The 17-year-old is a really special young player, and the teenage left-back, who can also play in central midfield, signed a new deal this time last year and admitted that he has already far exceeded his own expectations at the club.
Scarles burst onto the scene last season with a superb performance against FCSB in the Europa Conference League in November 2022.
Joe Cole described Scarles as ‘outstanding’ when speaking on BT Sport after the Hammersbeat FCSB 3-0.
He has everything needed to be a top-class left wing-back for West Ham. He has incredible amount of energy, stamina, pace and power. Oh, and he’s really gifted from a technical perspective as well – the total package you might say.
The talented teen is more that good enough to become a Premier League regular for the Hammers over the course of the next couple of years.
And I believe that West Ham manager David Moyes may well have a plan in place for Scarles to progress through to the senior team and replace Cresswell whenever the 33-year-old eventually leaves the club.
Because if Moyes wasn’t thinking along those lines, I think he would have already added a new left-back to his ranks.
