David Moyes has made one really, really poor decision at West Ham this season, and it has created a big problem for him now.
West Ham United manager David Moyes actually finds himself under real pressure at the London Stadium, despite our strong Premier League position and seamless qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League.
The football on display at the London Stadium has been dire this season, and everything came to a head on Thursday night when the Hammers put in the worst performance I have seen for a very long time.
That has to be on Moyes and the way that he sets up his team, as well as the way that he fails motivate his players.
One player was particularly poor on Thursday night against Bournemouth – Kurt Zouma. He really was awful, especially when running back towards goal and with the ball at his feet.
The 29-year-old has regressed badly this season in particular, and looks like he is genuinely close to having to hang up his boots due to his lack of mobility caused by numerous knee surgeries.
The fact that the Frenchman has deteriorated as a player is obviously bad news for West Ham, but to make matters even worse he is our club captain!

West Ham have awkward situation to deal with after David Moyes howler
The Scot decided to make Zouma our club captain back in the summer, after Declan Rice left the London Stadium to join Arsenal.
The former Chelsea man has always struggled with knee problems, and it doesn’t surprise me one little bit that David Sullivan tried to pull out of the deal to sign the Frenchman back in 2021 after he underwent his medical.
Don’t get me wrong, Zouma has been sensational at times for West Ham, but he as far from reliable as you can get when it comes down to his fitness.
The French centre-back missed 12 games for us last season through injury and 11 the campaign before that (Transfermarkt).
He’s missed a few games here and there for us this term as well, but even when he has supposedly been fit to play, he has looked like an injury just waiting to happen. When he runs, it looks like he’s pulling a tractor behind him.
The cold hard truth of the matter is that West Ham boss David Moyes needs to bring in a replacement for Zouma. I just don’t think he’ll be playing top level football for too much longer.
Now, this makes the fact that Moyes named him club captain at the start of the season utterly bizarre. What on earth was he thinking? Two key attributes for being a club captain is durability and reliability, and unfortunately Zouma has neither.
Surely the Hammers boss should have selected someone like James Ward-Prowse, or even Tomas Soucek to be our skipper! At least both of those players are on his team-sheet week in, week out.
Naming Kurt as the West Ham club captain was the wrong call on every level by Moyes, and now he’s created a really awkward situation for himself whereby he may have to drop his team leader due to his poor form. It never should have been a situation that he had to deal with in the first place.
