West Ham fans will not like what Dutch pundits are telling Crysencio Summerville to do

If losing Mohammed Kudus to their bitter rivals from North London was not painful enough, the West Ham United supporters are now facing up to the prospect of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville wearing the white of Tottenham too.

Manchester United looked destined to win the race for the much-coveted Portugal international.

However, it seems that no one expected Tottenham to go all Ed Woodward and blow their rivals out the water with an offer that would give Daniel Levy palpitations.

How would you feel about selling Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham? 👀

It would feel so wrong seeing him in a Spurs shirt 😬

We admit, we were confident that Mateus Fernandes would not join Tottenham.

But if the rumours are true – that Spurs are willing to meet West Ham United’s £85 million asking price while offering Fernandes a greater financial package than available at Old Trafford – well, a path cleared by Mohammed Kudus eleven months ago could be pretty worn down before this summer comes to an end.

According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, Tottenham are also targeting Crysencio Summerville.

A move that has the backing of the Dutch press, but which would not be a popular one among sections of the Hammers fanbase who would rather see Summerville waste away in the reserves than swap claret-and-blue for Lillywhite.

“That boy is getting a new club,” Dutch pundit Johan Derkson said on Vandaag Inside. “Wingers really aren’t easy to come by in England. That boy has done incredibly well.

“He shouldn’t stay in the Championship, that is a really stark contrast to the Premier League.”

“You have to be in the Premier League right now,” agrees Rene van der Gijp, a two-time Eredivisie champion with PSV Eindhoven in the 1980s.

“Tottenham Hotspur, that would be a really nice club.”

Spurs have already signed Jan Paul van Hecke and appear to be targeting Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo. In addition to Micky van de Ven and Xavi Simons, Summerville would be the latest Oranje addition to a suddenly Dutch-heavy dressing room.

But herein lies a potential challenge in the early days of the post-David Sullivan, Daniel Kretinsky era.

Czech billionaire Kretinsky has the backing of the West Ham fans following some exciting early moves, such as the pursuit of a new sporting director, the decision to retain Nuno Espirito Santo, and his refusal to accept anything but top dollar for the club’s prized assets.

But selling both Fernandes and Summerville to the club most supporters hate the most? Even for a potential £130 million windfall, this would raise some rather awkward questions.

Man United may not be willing to put their money where their mouth is regarding Fernandes, but Summerville’s reported £50 million price-tag seemingly appeals to the Red Devils.

For Old Trafford icon Nicky Butt, what Summerville lacks in consistency, he could make up for with potential.

“He’s an explosive player, he’s good to watch,” Butt told PaddyPower last week of a winger who has just six Premier League goals in 50 West Ham appearances. “I don’t think he’s consistent enough.

“[But] United have to build a squad. It can’t be all about going and getting the superstar signings.

“I’m looking at him thinking he’s got to get a lot more consistent to get to the next level, but I’d still definitely look at signing a player like him.”
