West Ham may well have had a big escape after we missed out on signing Jannik Vestergaard to Leicester last summer.
Vestergaard ended up joining Leicester City in August 2021 for around £15 million though (The Athletic).
At the time, it seemed like a big blow for West Ham. The towering 6ft 6in Dane had been fantastic for Southampton before moving to Leicester.
West Ham went on to sign Kurt Zouma instead though. The 27-year-old has been a brilliant addition for the Hammers and is a far superior player to Vestergaard.
The board and Moyes often get a hammering from the fans for not acting quick enough but this time, their due diligence paid off big time…
West Ham dodged bullet with Leicester now trying to sell Jannik Vestergaard
The Foxes have told the 29-year-old that he can leave the King Power Stadium after just one season in the East Midlands (Telegraph).
Vestergaard made just six Premier League starts for Leicester this season and obviously didn’t impress Brendan Rodgers one little bit.
West Ham clearly got the better deal by signing Zouma, despite the fact that he was more or less double the price.
It’s worth bearing in mind in future regarding transfer rumours.
Let’s all give Moyes the time to build the squad that he wants and bring in players that improve upon what we already have.
Had the Hammers signed the Denmark international last year, we may well have had an expensive problem on our hands now.
Leicester signing Jannik Vestergaard actually did West Ham a huge favour in the end!
