TalkingPoints Daily: Paco Jemez, Eric Dier, and who is West Ham’s best January signing?

Add as preferred source on Google

Is Jarrod Bowen really West Ham United’s best-ever January signing? Would you take Eric Dier at the London Stadium? And just who on earth is Paco Jemez?

Those are just three of the questions on Hammers News’ lips today as the transfer window rumbles on and Nuno Espirito Santo closes in on a new assistant coach.

Calling all West Ham United fans;

Admired by Luis Enrique and loved by Pep Guardiola… 🇪🇸

What do YOU think about West Ham hiring Paco Jemez?

West Ham United close in on La Liga cult hero Paco Jemez

Recent reports claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo was frustrated about the lack of behind-the-scenes appointment, with few of his old Nottingham Forest favourites joining him in East London.

Now, prominent Hammers insider ExWHUemployee has revealed on his West Ham Way Patreon that Paco Jemez is on his way to the Premier League.

This time ten years ago, the 55-year-old former Spain international was the go-to manager for hipsters and footballing purists everywhere. Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of Paco Jemez. Luis Enrique, too.

But will his famously free-wheeling, high-pressing tendencies rub off on the pragmatic Portuguese in the Hammers dugout?

Is Jarrod Bowen West Ham’s best-ever January signing?

No Upson, Ashton or Lucas Neil? 💰

Who are your Top 5 January signings at West Ham?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United celebrates with Tomas Soucek of West Ham United after scoring the team's first goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Sheffield United at London Stadium on September 30, 2023 in London, England.

From coaching hires to new signings, hopefully one day we will have the luxury of mentioning Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe when ranking the most inspired mid-season signings in West Ham’s history.

As things stand right now, though, Jarrod Bowen will take some beating. As January recruits go, you would be hard pressed finding any who has provided a greater return on his club’s investment than the £22 million acquisition from Hull City.

But who else makes up your top five? Does Ricardo Vaz Te deserve a spot, thanks to his play-off final heroics alone? Jesse Lingard shone bright but brief. Enough to put him ahead of Bobby Zamora, Matt Upson and Lucas Neil?

Let us know below…

Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe are only the start

Nuno is demanding further signings, and he is not the only one.

Castellanos and Pablo have given West Ham genuine depth up top for the first time in a while, but this is still a squad with more holes than a Swiss cheese bagel.

West Ham are not entirely out of the Bento Matheus race, even if he does prefer Genoa. At least one centre-back is a must, but what about goalkeepers, full-backs and wingers?

There will soon be a number ten shirt in need of a new home too…

How many more signings do we need to make for you to feel confident about staying up?! 🤔

Still an awful lot of work to do…

Pablo awaiting his first West Ham goal after Gil Vicente deal

What have you made of Pablo’s first two games in claret and blue?

The £18 million signing is yet to open his account – unlike FA Cup hero Castellanos – but Nuno likes what he sees from a striker whose fearsome conversion rate would put even Erling Haaland to shame.

“It was incredible to play in a crowded stadium [in that QPR win], with the fans always supporting us. They always give us the grit and courage to keep fighting, and I think that made a big difference,” Pablo said this week.

“An experience I’ll never forget. Hopefully, we can build on it now.”

What have YOU made of Pablo so far? 🇧🇷

What do you think he can bring? And have you spotted any weaknesses?

West Ham United's Pablo Felipe celebrates after his side's first goal scored by Crysencio Summerville during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers on January 11, 2026 in London, England.

Former Tottenham defender Eric Dier linked with Monaco exit

Could Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock be the Craig Dawson replacement West Ham so crave? Failing that, will we instead see another highly-experienced, Premier League-proven centre-back parachuted in to fix Nuno’s leaky defence?

Dier worked briefly with Nuno at Tottenham. But at 31, are his best days stuck forever in the distant past?

Eric Dier would be the PERFECT January signing for West Ham…😍

Youssef En-Nesyri could join David Moyes’ Everton

Oh, the irony.

David Moyes spent years chasing Youssef En-Nesyri at West Ham. Now, would you believe, the Fenerbahce frontman could be Everton-bound on the back of a career-best, 30-goal season in Turkey.

If you could roll back the years, which former transfer target would you move heaven and earth to sign?

Youssef En-Nesyri is West Ham’s one that got away… 🇲🇦

Which former transfer target do YOU wish the Hammers had signed?
