Star Edson Alvarez must be made to apologise and clarify disrespectful comments just two months into his West Ham career.

When it comes to hitting the ground running after signing for a new club, it doesn’t get much better than Edson Alvarez at West Ham.

There was big pressure on the Mexican when he joined West Ham from Ajax for £34m back in August.

Not only because he became the most expensive Mexican footballer of all time.

But because he was replacing a certain Declan Rice as West Ham’s new defensive midfielder too.

Well he has more than justified his arrival on both fronts. West Ham fans are absolutely loving El Machin thus far and are already seeing why he was such a big favourite at Ajax.

The midfielder didn’t have his best game against Villa – but then who did?

However now many supporters are rightly annoyed by quotes attributed to him in an interview with Sky Sports Germany.

The 26-year-old destroyer was linked with both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the summer before he joined the Hammers.

And in the new interview filmed while he was away with Mexico during the international break, Alvarez effectively told Bayern he would still be interested in moving there as soon as next summer.

‘Everything can happen. I’m always open’

Star Alvarez must be made to apologise and clarify disrespectful comments just two months into his West Ham career.

“It was a very busy summer. In the last weeks (of the transfer window), I knew about the interest from FC Bayern,” Alvarez said.

“Everything can happen. I’m always open, but at the moment, I’m really enjoying my time at West Ham.

“I want to play and show the people my best qualities. But in the summer, you never know what‘s going on.”

Sorry but to come out with that just over eight weeks after joining West Ham is totally out of order.

Sending a come and get me plea to a huge team like Bayern has gone down like a lead balloon with many Hammers fans.

Alvarez flagrantly fluttering his eyelids at Bayern leaves a sour taste and needs to be nipped in the bud

We’re trying to build something here after Rice forced a move to one of our rivals. And here we have his replacement fluttering his eyelids at Bayern already! We don’t want players of Alvarez’s age coming here and using as a stepping stone for one season.

We’ll become known as a car park. Parking players for a year until they get a move to a so-called “bigger” club.

David Moyes should make Alvarez clarify his comments and apologise to supporters. They are disrespectful in the extreme. It needs to be nipped in the bud. And perhaps sporting director Mark Noble might want to have a word that it’s not the done thing at West Ham.

When new signings arrive at the club they are shown a video by Noble about what it means to play for West Ham. Clearly that hasn’t sunk in for Alvarez judging by these ill-advised comments.

But then in modern football players seem to do and say what they want when it comes to transfers despite being under contract on very lucrative terms.

This can be easily sorted with an apology and explanation from the player. Let’s hope he does just that.
