West Ham United winger Said Benrahma is running out of time, if he is to turn things around at the London Stadium.

Said Benrahma joined West Ham from Brentford initially on loan in October 2020, and the club then made his move a permanent one in January 2021 for around £25 million.

Since then, the 28-year-old has endured a love / hate relationship with Hammers boss David Moyes, and has really fallen down the pecking order under the Scot this season.

When Benrahma burst onto the scene for West Ham away at Leeds a couple of years ago, Moyes criticised him for his overly-elaborate, and expressive approach to the game.

The Scot has continued with this management style with the Algeria international ever since, and the result is that he has become a more defensively functional winger – someone who can’t beat a defender with skill or pace and is seemingly petrified to make a mistake.

Because of this, Benrahma now almost always takes the safe option – a mindset and playing style that renders him as completely ineffective inside the final third.

Now, the onus is on the former Brentford man to start making things happen – or he’ll risk being sold in the January transfer window…

Said Benrahma doesn’t have long to save West Ham career

The bottom line is the 28-year-old has been awful for the Hammers so far this season.

In 15 games in all competitions for West Ham thus far, he’s failed to score a goal and has registered only one assist (Transfermarkt).

Benrahma looks like he has lost a yard of pace and seems to be totally devoid of confidence. Whoever’s fault that is right now is irrelevant.

It’s the Algerian’s responsibility to turn things around, regardless of the treatment he has received from Moyes, and he hasn’t got long left to make an impression.

When Premier League football resumes on November 25th after the international break, the former Brentford attacker may have just five weeks or 10 games to prove his worth to West Ham.

Benrahma will be jetting off to AFCON with Algeria at the start of January, and if his poor form continues up until then, I firmly believe that West Ham will decide to move him on.

The once extremely skilful winger has to start showing that he’s capable of making a difference for the Hammers with a constant flow of goals and assists.

Otherwise, I don’t really see the point in keeping him at the London Stadium.
