Only 1 West Ham player left Ashton Gate with his head held high after brilliant FA Cup display

West Ham United put in a really poor performance in general against Bristol City in the FA Cup yesterday.

The majority of the West Ham players stunk the place out at Ashton Gate during our FA Cup third round clash with Championship side Bristol City.

Konstantinos Mavropanos set the tone for the Hammers, with a shocking error that allowed Bristol City to take the lead early on, and we never recovered.

He wasn’t the only one at fault though. There were horrendous performances all over the park, and David Moyes would have been fuming with the fringe players who came into the side.

However, there was one real bright spark as far as I’m concerned, and that was the performance of Emerson Palmieri – a player who has usurped expectations at the London Stadium in a big way this term.

The 29-year-old has been absolutely brilliant for West Ham so far this season, and he put in yet another superb display at Ashton Gate last night…

One West Ham player was excellent during FA Cup clash

Emerson defended well the entire game and was our most dangerous threat going forward as well.

He didn’t shirk the physical battle, like many of his teammates did, and tried to get us back in the game single handedly at times.

The £13 million signing from Chelsea has been one of our best players this season, and his excellent performances have gone under the radar due to the brilliance of Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus.

In 19 Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, Emerson has averaged 2.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per game (Who Scored).

The Italy international is absolutely vital to everything good that we do as a team, and I fully expect him to get even better as the season goes on.

West Ham put in a dreadful performance against Bristol City in the FA Cup at Ashton Gate last night, but Emerson would have been well within his rights to leave the ground with his head held high.

It is difficult to argue a case for any other Hammer to have done the same.
