It may well be the last chance saloon for West Ham United midfielder Conor Coventry tonight, if he is selected by David Moyes.

The 22-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium throughout the summer transfer window.

Coventry ended up staying at West Ham though, in the hope of forcing his way into David Moyes’s starting XI on a regular basis.

It’s early days I know but still, he has hardly been given any game-time from Moyes so far.

Coventry has played 106 minutes in the UEFA Europa Conference League and just one minute in the Premier league thus far.

It is clear to see that three of four players are above the 22-year-old in the central midfield pecking order at West Ham.

So it really is very much a case of taking his chance when he’s given one.

The Hammers take on FCSB at the London Stadium in the UEFA Europa Conference League tonight.

Moyes will undoubtedly freshen up his starting XI, with the games coming thick and fast for West Ham.

Should Coventry get the nod against the Romanian side tonight, it will be an opportunity that he has to grasp with both hands.

The 22-year-old is a tidy footballer but in truth, he doesn’t seem to bring much to the party when he plays, certainly at the very highest level.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international needs to show Moyes that he has something extra about him – something special.

Conor Coventry is out of contract with West Ham next summer, so if he doesn’t make his mark between now and January, he could well be moved on.

Tonight’s clash with FCSB could be a hugely important one for the midfielder. If he plays from the start, he absolutely has to make a positive impact.

And if he isn’t selected to start, that will tell us all we need to know about how Moyes sees him anyway.
