I think that the latest transfer rumours suggest that West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui is prepared to give Maxwel Cornet a big chance to impress this season.
Maxwel Cornet was brought to West Ham by David Moyes in the summer of 2022, and now Julen Lopetegui has a big decision to make after the 27-year-old’s recent struggles.
The Hammers actually tried to sell the pacy attacker in the January window, after his torrid time at the London Stadium.
However, he remained at West Ham in the end.
Maxwel Cornet has played just 957 minutes of football for the Hammers, since joining us from Burnley just under two years ago (Transfermarkt).
Sure, he suffered with numerous injuries, but Moyes just chose to ignore him for no apparent reason for large parts of the season as well.

It was bizarre man management from the Scot, especially when you consider the fact that our only natural left winger – Said Benrahma – left in January.
So will the Ivory Coast international get a fair crack of the whip under Lopetegui? I think the Spaniard’s reported actions this summer suggest that he most certainly will…
Julen Lopetegui to make big Maxwel Cornet call
I feel like the Spaniard is planning for the former Burnley man to play a role for the Hammers this season.
That’s because of the latest transfer rumours.
Lopetegui is being linked with moves to sign strikers, midfielders, defenders, and even more right wingers!
However, links with left wingers have been extremely rare this summer, if not non-existent.
Matias Soule was the latest right winger to be linked with a move to West Ham yesterday, in spite of the fact that Lopetegui already has Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Luis Guilherme at his disposal.
So Cornet may well be set for some action – certainly during pre-season at least.

Now, despite the fact that Cornet is left footed, he has spent the majority of his career playing as an old fashion left winger.
By that, I mean the fact that he always tries to get to the byline before whipping in crosses, rather than cutting back inside like most wide players do now.
The Ivory Coast international possesses blistering pace when he’s at full fitness, and he proved during his time with Lyon and Burnley that he can make a real difference at the very highest level.
If Julen Lopetegui signs someone like Jhon Duran this summer, having a winger like Maxwel Cornet getting to the byline and whipping in crosses will be pivotal to our chances of achieving any kind of success.
And if the summer transfer window closes without the Hammers boss having brought in a natural left winger, the Ivorian ace will undoubtedly be given a big chance to shine.
