Forget Evan Ferguson, superb £40 million Premier League striker would make West Ham unplayable

West Ham United signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton on transfer deadline day earlier this month.

It has been well-documented that West Ham do not have an obligation to sign Evan Ferguson permanently, nor do we have an option clause inserted into the deal.

However, it has been claimed that Graham Potter has one main priority this summer, and that is to bring Ferguson to the club on a permanent basis.

Ferguson has only made three appearances for the Hammers so far, all from the substitutes bench.

It’s far too early to judge whether or not he’s good enough to succeed at the highest level, but could it be argued that Potter should be more ambitious regarding which strikers he tries to bring to the London Stadium this summer?

Almost certainly as far as I’m concerned.

There is one player out there in particular who I think would take West Ham to a whole new level entirely.

Forget Ferguson, Liam Delap would make West Ham unplayable

Liam Delap will be available for around £40 million this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

West Ham apparently attempted a late move to sign Delap on deadline day earlier this month, but he obviously remained at Portman Road in the end.

In my opinion, signing him should be an absolute no-brainer for the Hammers.

The 22-year-old is a real powerhouse of a striker, and he’s an excellent finisher as well.

Delap has bagged 10 goals and two assists in 26 Premier League games for a struggling Ipswich Town side this season (Transfermarkt).

The former Manchester City man has the strength required to hold up the ball with his back to goal and bring his teammates into play.

However, he possesses the pace and movement needed to get in behind the opposition’s back-line as well.

Delap would be the Hammers’ leading striker for a decade if the owners part with £40 million to sign him.

I’m not sure I’ve seen a deal that makes more sense.

Man City could be a problem for West Ham regarding Liam Delap

The 22-year-old left the Etihad to link up with Ipswich last summer.

And if Pep Guardiola wants to sign another striker this summer, he may well come knocking for Delap.

Man City have a buy-back option on the striker worth just £29.5 million according to Sunday Mirror (print edition February 2nd, page 69).

So it Pep wants him back at The Etihad, he’ll get him. However, they do have Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush, so I’m not sure a move to Man City would make sense for the Ipswich Town striker.

West Ham have to leave nothing on the table and get Liam Delap signed at all costs this summer, regardless of whether or not Evan Ferguson is brought in on a permanent deal.
