Graham Potter has his heart set on signing one specific striker for West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

West Ham United appointed Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui back in January.

Potter has experienced a real baptism of fire since taking over at the London Stadium.

The Hammers head coach has had to deal with numerous injuries, and the mess left behind by Lopetegui was substantial.

The latest blow for Potter was confirmed on Tuesday, after Lucas Paqueta suffered a serious ankle injury during training.

However, the 49-year-old has to remain positive, with the bigger picture in mind.

He will undoubtedly have one eye on the summer transfer window.

And Potter is said to be lining up the signing of one man in particular.

Evan Ferguson was reunited with his former manager Graham Potter on transfer deadline day earlier this month.

Potter brought Ferguson to the London Stadium on a dry loan.

West Ham beat as many as 20 clubs in the race for Ferguson’s signature.

As things stand, none of us know whether the Hammers will be able to strike a deal with Brighton to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent deal in the summer.

The fact is that Potter clearly loves the Republic of Ireland international striker.

And Claret and Hugh claim that the Hammers head coach has his heart set on signing Ferguson permanently in the summer transfer window.

Potter is said to want the Brighton-owned hitman above everyone else, Hugo Ekitike included.

The 20-year-old is certainly a real talent, but will he be able to rediscover the form he showed in the 2022/23 season?

Evan Ferguson could be West Ham’s No.9 for a decade and more

Ferguson has absolutely everything that the Hammers need in a centre-forward.

If he remains fit, I don’t see how he can be anything other than a huge success with West Ham.

The 20-year-old possesses the physical profile we need in the centre-forward role, and he proved two years ago that he’s a tremendously gifted finisher.

Progress for young forwards is seldom linear, and Ferguson has gone through a really tough spell over the past 18 months.

That will undoubtedly make him stronger though, and he showed during his Hammers debut that he has so much to offer us.

If Evan Ferguson succeeds with West Ham during the next few months, I’m sure the club’s owners will do everything in their power to make his loan move a permanent one.

And if they’re successful in doing just that, the Irishman could be our number one striker for the next decade, and more.
