David Moyes needs to play Thilo Kehrer in new position to help save West Ham United's season

David Moyes needs to play Thilo Kehrer in new position to help save West Ham United's season

Thilo Kehrer has been sensational since joining West Ham, and now it’s time for David Moyes to fully utilise his versatility.

After moving to the London Stadium from Paris Saint-Germain for around £10 million in the summer, the 25-year-old has arguably been the Hammers’ best player so far this season.

Kehrer actually made an inauspicious start to life at West Ham, after he gave a penalty away against Brighton during his Premier League debut.

The Germany international has bounced back in fine style, however, with strong performances against Viborg, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Chelsea, FCSB, Silkeborg and Everton respectively.

His swashbuckling displays have given he West Ham fans some real hope throughout what has been an awful start to our 2022/23 campaign.

And as good as Kehrer has been at centre-back, we think that David Moyes should now switch him to right-back in order to help save the Hammers’ season…

Thilo Kehrer should start in a new position for West Ham

One of our main weak links this season has been the right-back position.

Vladimir Coufal has been quite simply dreadful for West Ham recently and he has become a player who the opposition targets every single week.

Now, Moyes doesn’t have many options really. He clearly doesn’t think Harrison Ashby is ready to be playing regular Premier League football. I tend to disagree, but that’s a debate for another time.

Meanwhile, Ben Johnson is currently out injured.

So we think that Kehrer absolutely has to start at right-back against Wolves in 10 day’s time. Angelo Ogbonna or Craig Dawson could then parter Kurt Zouma in the middle.

Kehrer has all of the attributes needed to succeed as a full-back in the modern game.

The Germany international has demonstrated his blistering pace regularly during his opening eight games in a West Ham shirt.

The 25-year-old is also a really tenacious tackler and has great energy.

He has also played in both full-back positions regularly for PSG, Schalke and Germany.

If West Ham United are to make any kind of improvements over the next couple of months, Moyes needs to bite the bullet and start Thilo Kehrer at right-back in place of Vladimir Coufal.
