Alleged West Ham target Borna Sosa is the perfect antidote to bitter double David Moyes transfer blow

Alleged West Ham United target Borna Sosa is the perfect antidote to a bitter double David Moyes transfer blow.

Having finally signed a striker after an 18-month search, Moyes has turned his attentions to bringing in a new left-back-cum-wingback.

It is one of the key priority positions West Ham must strengthen this summer.

Aaron Cresswell has been a great servant for West Ham but the 32-year-old needs help and cannot be expected to play every game in what could be another mammoth season of domestic and European football for the Hammers.

West Ham have been heavily linked with moves for David Raum (Sport 1) and Filip Kostic (Sky Sports).

But Raum has turned down several offers to sign for RB Leipzig and was unveiled on Sunday.

And Moyes’ alleged plans have taken another hit this weekend with the likes of Claret and Hugh claiming Kostic has turned down a move to West Ham.

There may yet be hope for the Hammers if they revisit reported interest in another Bundesliga star.

Because alleged West Ham target Borna Sosa is the perfect antidote to the bitter double Moyes transfer blow.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Total Football Analysis claimed it was highly likely the Hammers could target the 24-year-old Croatian as a replacement for Cresswell.

West Ham’s obvious problem was reported interest from the likes of Man City and Chelsea in the Stuttgart star, who is valued at £21m (The Sun).

But Man City are now pushing hard to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton while Chelsea, somewhat ironically, are said to want Kostic.

So there could be a window of opportunity for West Ham if Moyes is interested in Sosa.

And he really should be.

The Croatia international is a top-class left-back and can also operate as a left wing-back.

He is absolutely rapid. In fact, he recently told the Bundesliga’s official website that he has been the fastest player in every single team he has ever played for.

“As far as I can remember, my strengths have always been my speed and a good left foot,” Sosa told the Bundesliga’s official website.

“Not just crosses but in general. Passing, shooting, free kicks, corners, et cetera. Regardless of which team I played in, I was the fastest in testing. This is also the case here in Stuttgart. So I would single out these things as my strengths.”

Kostic and Raum – but particularly the Serbian – were renowned for their assists.

And that is a massive part of Sosa’s game too.

The alleged West Ham target scored one goal and laid on eight assists in 28 games for Stuttgart last term having provided nine assists in 25 games the season before (WhoScored).

The left-back’s YouTube highlights reel for 2022 will give West Ham fans an idea of what they could expect if Moyes did manage to bring Sosa to east London.

West Ham must go out and get a top quality left-back if the team is to continue to compete for the top six.

Sosa is certainly that.
