West Ham United player currently out on loan takes a very clear dig at the Hammers fans, when speaking to reporters.

Nikola Vlasic left the Hammers to join Italian club Torino on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window.

And the Croatia international is already making big waves with the Serie A outfit.

Torino have an option to buy Vlasic for just £13.4 million in the summer of 2023, but they are allegedly trying to expedite the transfer and get it wrapped up by January.

Vlasic has bagged four goals and three assists in 16 games for Torino so far this season (Transfermarkt). It will be no surprise whatsoever to see him leave the London Stadium permanently, whether that be in January or the summer.

And perhaps the West Ham fans will be glad to see the back of him after his latest remarks…

Vlasic scored Croatia’s first penalty during their shoot-out win over Japan on Monday night.

Naturally, he was one of the first players to be interviewed.

Gazzetta dello Sport spoke with Vlasic (as quoted via Sport Witness) and dedicated Croatia’s penalty shootout win to the Torino fans:

I feel like sharing this joy [making it to World Cup quarter-final] with Torino fans. They are fantastic. From the first day I arrived in the city, they took me by the hand. When I meet them on the street, they always repeat to me ‘Grande Toro’, ‘Grande Toro’. Everyone asks me to stay for a long time. I’m very happy at Torino, let’s see what happens in the summer, but right now I just want to enjoy the joy and fun of wearing that shirt and thinking about winning games to make them happy.

If that isn’t a dig at the West Ham fans then I don’t know what is!

Considering the fact that he was at the London Stadium for one full season and had the unwavering support from the fans, the comments from him are misguided at best and just plain rude and insulting at worst.

I have repeatedly suggested that Vlasic was not anywhere good enough to play Premier League football. His form in Italy has opened me up to the idea that maybe David Moyes just didn’t use him correctly.

But after the comments he made about the Torino fans, I just want him gone now. They were unacceptable and not called for. And the quicker we get rid of him permanently the better as far as I’m concerned.
