West Ham United must make crucial Harrison Ashby contract decision now, or risk being left with egg on their face.

The 20-year-old right-back came on as a second-half substitute for the Hammers against FCSB in the Europa Conference League last night.

Ashby was really close to joining Newcastle United on transfer deadline day in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.

And since then, it has emerged that he shares the same agent as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

Ashby is such an incredibly talented young player.

In fact, I truly believe that he is streets ahead of Hammers duo Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson.

He was sensational during his 25 minute cameo out in Romania last night.

Ashby’s energy, stamina, positional awareness, crossing ability and array of passing are all well beyond what you would expect of a 20-year-old.

The West Ham youngster put in numerous crosses that were perfectly weighted with penetrating trajectories when he came on last night.

It was just unfortunate that the attackers couldn’t put them away. He also displayed his exceptional passing ability with a superb through ball for Divin Mubama, only for the striker to mis-control it.

Ashby is clearly a special talent.

Described as an ‘excellent’ player by Football.London, the 20-year-old is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer of 2023.

West Ham need to get Harrison Ashby tied down to a new deal NOW. There can be no excuses. Pay him what he wants and be done with it.

The young Scot will undoubtedly go on to the a top Premier League player. And if he does that somewhere else other than the London Stadium, the Hammers owners will be left with egg on their faces.
