West Ham flop Roberto has announced his retirement from the professional game after his contract with Valladolid expired.
The 36-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

Roberto ended up being arguably the worst ever player to wear a West Ham shirt. He was absolutely dreadful for the Hammers.

Manuel Pellegrini lost his job due to the fact that he played the Spaniard for so long during the 2019/20 season, after Lukasz Fabianski suffered a long-term injury.
The 36-year-old played 10 games for West Ham, and let in 21 goals, keeping only one clean sheet in the process (Transfermarkt).
He joined Alaves on loan in January 2020 before moving to Valladolid on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.
And it seems as though he won’t be playing any more at all…

Roberto announces his retirement
The Spanish goalkeeper will not be playing professional football anymore.
Roberto took to his official Instagram account to announce his retirement last night:
“I never would have thought that this date would mean a before and after in my life. A day that began the most exciting, challenging and rewarding adventure I could imagine. 17 years later I look back and I can only thank you. First of all, I want to thank my people who have always been there, have been by my side in difficult situations to give me good advice and who, without a doubt, will always be there. Thanks to everyone who always trusted me and knew how to prove it to me. Thank you Atlético de Madrid, Tarragona, Huelva, Zaragoza, Sporting de Lisboa and Benfica, Olympiaco, Espanyol, Málaga, West Ham, Alavés and Valladolid who thought at some point in their history that I would be the best option to defend their home. It’s indescribable how it feels to be there, in the spotlight, playing as a superhero who can do anything. It is definitely a feeling that I will always keep to myself. I chose this photo for my farewell because it is the one that most faithfully reflects how these 17 years have been. Passion, dedication, suffering and reward of those who gave everything. Also for defending the club shirt that made me feel like God on one of the most special nights of my life. Thank you Olympiake for giving meaning to my career. I am also very grateful to Atlético de Madrid for what they have given me for more than 10 years. Today, 05/09/2022, I decide to end my career as a professional footballer and change the course of my life. With the same enthusiasm and desire that I had 17 years ago, on December 22. Two children who waited for me too many and endless adventures to live in the context of everyday life, that which is so difficult to see from the public eye, but that we should never lose on the horizon of reality. Dad and mom, thank you for giving me enough values to realize what I have achieved, knowing that I still have everything to achieve! To you, dear football, I do not say goodbye. You still have a lot to learn about me…”
It’s no surprise to us that Roberto has announced his retirement.
He clearly wasn’t good enough to play Premier League football. Tony Cascarino once labelled him as the worst Premier League goalkeeper of all-time (The Times).
But he does seem like a really nice bloke.
We wish Roberto well in his future endeavours.
