West Ham United co-owner and majority stakeholder David Sullivan is set to feature in a new transfer window documentary on Sky TV.

If anyone knows the inner workings of the often murky world of football transfers it is West Ham’s major shareholder Sullivan.

He has been West Ham’s de facto director of football and chief transfer negotiator on and off for the last 12 years.

And he played a similar role during his time as Birmingham owner too.

There have been transfer hits and misses – as there is with any football club – during Sullivan’s West Ham tenure.

Dimitri Payet and Marko Arnautovic are two hits that spring to mind.

Benni McCarthy was a big miss in every sense of the word while there were other bizarre signings such as Mido along the way too.

Sullivan has taken a step back from recruitment during David Moyes’ second spell in charge of West Ham.

But as majority stakeholder he is still very much in control of spending. West Ham have certainly backed Moyes in the transfer market in the last two summer windows.

Moyes has spent close to a quarter of a billion pounds in consecutive summer windows, including an unprecedented £170m outlay before the start of this season.

That is yet to reap any reward on the pitch with the Hammers only outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference.

Moyes has insisted he will not be active in this January window unless through necessity if West Ham pick up injuries in certain positions.

Sullivan and fellow co-owners Daniel Kretinsky and David Gold have reportedly offered to sign a striker for the Scot to help solve West Ham’s goalscoring woes.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham get involved in the market this winter. But there will still be transfer window activity of sorts involving the club’s top dog.

Because West Ham co-owner Sullivan is set to feature in a new transfer window documentary on Sky.

The Sky Original documentary Deadline Day: Football’s Transfer Window will bring fans exclusive insight into football’s multi-billion transfer market.

Sky says Deadline Day ‘unravels the knot of real human motivations behind each headline-grabbing deal, revealing the operatic narratives of triumph, power, and ambition behind football’s biggest transfers’.

West Ham co-owner Sullivan features in the trailer for the mini-series – which airs mid-January – and can be heard saying “it’s not much fun”.

You can watch the full trailer at the bottom of this article.

The documentary was filmed during the summer window, so there should be plenty for Sullivan to talk about given the eight signings made by West Ham during that time.

“Shot across summer 2022 with contributions from journalists, sporting directors and club owners including Crystal Palace’s Steve Parish, Leeds United’s Andrea Radrizzani and West Ham’s David Sullivan, Deadline Day takes viewers inside some of the market’s most talked about moves,” Sky states.

“Cameras follow Fabian Ruiz and his agent Rodolfo Orife as his move to join his hero Lionel Messi at PSG hangs in the balance. German agent Sascha Empacher brokers a deal for Sasa Kalajdžić’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, while relentless press speculation linking the Austrian forward to Manchester United creates an unwelcome distraction.”

All episodes of the documentary will be available to watch from January 15th.
