West Ham boss David Moyes has opened up on the one message that he gives to Declan Rice every single day in training.

The 23-year-old has been truly sensational for the Hammers so far this season. In fact, he has been the standout performer for the club over the past three seasons.

Rice is an exceptional talent and keeping him at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future will be the number one priority for David Moyes.

Dec has reached a new level entirely this term though and is now widely considered to be one of the best central midfielders in world football, if not the best.

Aside from his technical ability and athleticism, one of the most impressive things about Rice is the maturity that he plays with and his leadership for someone so young.

And Moyes has opened up on just how much he demands of Rice…

West Ham boss Moyes says the same thing to Rice every week in training

The 23-year-old has stood in for Mark Noble as club captain this season when the 34-year-old hasn’t been playing.

Dec has done a wonderful job and if he does stay at the London Stadium beyond the end of the summer transfer window, he will be the new club captain.

Moyes spoke to WHUFC.com yesterday and shared how much he demands of Rice during training sessions at Rush Green:

“The biggest thing I’ve seen is the mentality change in the players here. It’s incredible. I say to Declan Rice every week ‘you have to drive them on, every day in training – the levels and standards have to be taken higher.’ Every day you have to drive them on, the levels. He has the chance to work with some of the best players in the country when he goes away with England – Harry Kane, Harry Maguire, you name it – and he has to bring that back to our camp and demand it from the other boys.”

Rice has already displayed great leadership for West Ham. He demands so much from his teammates on the pitch as well, and that’s a very good thing.

If we can keep Dec at the London Stadium, he can help drive this great football club on for many years to come.

The 23-year-old is absolutely vital to everything that the Hammers do both on and off the pitch.

And West Ham boss Moyes demanding so much from Rice says all we need to know about he 23-year-old’s mentality and character.
