Pablo Fornals has dropped a not so subtle hint to West Ham United manager David Moyes about where he wants to play.

West Ham United signed Pablo Fornals from Villarreal in the summer of 2019 for around £22 million (talkSPORT).

The 27-year-old instantly endeared himself to the Hammers faithful and he is a hugely popular figure at the London Stadium.

However, David Moyes has barely used him over the past 12 months, and a recent report claimed that he could join Sevilla in January.

Pablo will be out of contract in the summer of 2024, and it has been suggested that he has no interest in taking up an option that both he and the club have to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

One of the main issues that I’ve noticed for the Spaniard is that whenever he does get a chance, he is mostly shunted out on the left hand side. Sure, he has been given the odd opportunity to play in the middle but it’s obvious that he hasn’t had the chance to build up any kind of rhythm in that particular role.

And Pablo has made that very clear indeed to the Scot…

The Scot will surely understand now that he cannot play the 27-year-old out wide on the left anymore.

That’s because Fornals has just told WHUFC.com that he is at his best when operating in the number 8 position:

“I was No18 when I first joined West Ham, and Felipe Anderson wore No8. I had the No8 at Villarreal too. I always felt the position the No8 is usually associated with is where I am at my best, so I love the No8. Andres Iniesta used to wear the No8 too, and he’s an influence on my style.”

You can’t get much clearer than that can you.

If Fornals is to leave the London Stadium either in January or next summer then so be it.

However, there may well still be some time left for Pablo Fornals to salvage his career at West Ham, as long as Moyes is prepared to play him in his favoured role.

I’m just not sure that the Scot will do that though, with so many quality central midfielders at his disposal. If I had to guess, I would say that Fornals will be off before the start of next season. And it will be a real shame to lose him.
