There are a host of West Ham players that have struggled to hit their usual high standards so far this season.

And that is reflected in the fact the Hammers are just one point off the bottom three approaching the halfway stage of the season.

No individual should be made a scapegoat for the West Ham malaise. But one player who has been well down on the levels he is capable of is Bowen.

He was one of West Ham’s best players last season and one of the top attackers in the Premier League too.

So much so he finally earned an England call-up in the summer. But his poor form this season saw him miss out on joining West Ham captain Declan Rice in the World Cup squad.

Bowen shook off that disappointment by joining manager Moyes in Florida when the Scot gave his squad some holiday time during the pause for Qatar.

West Ham were back in training at Rush Green this week to prepare for the restart.

And Bowen was clearly keen to know what was in store as he arrived for training in behind the scenes video posted on YouTube by West Ham.

Bowen was seen scoping out the training pitches to get an idea what was to come.

“I’m seeing what’s set up outside, seeing what running we’ve got,” Bowen said while looking over to the Rush Green pitches.

A member of the West Ham staff then gleefully tells Bowen “double session geeze” prompting a funny response.

“Oh mate,” Bowen said at the realisation of a tough day ahead after enjoying a break in the Florida sun.

Bowen should be well used to hard graft, though. He certainly puts enough of it in for the team every week.

To maintain fitness in previous pre-seasons Bowen spent part of his summer at his uncle’s farm in rural Herefordshire, running with weights on his arms in the potato fields, and returned for pre-season the fittest of any West Ham player.

So even a double session would have felt like light work after that experience!

Let’s hope Bowen hits the ground running for the Hammers and gets back to his best when the Premier League action resumes in a few weeks.
