Brilliant Sinclair was loved by West Ham fans as a player.

And he continues to enjoy a close relationship with West Ham fans in his role as a pundit.

Sinclair is very vocal in his support for the Hammers on social media.

Legend Sinclair a Hammer for life

And he has proved he is in tune with what West Ham fans are thinking and feeling when discussing the club in his role on talkSPORT.

Sinclair spent the best years of his career at West Ham, earning a place in England’s 2002 World Cup squad.

And that is reflected in a team he has selected from the best players he has played with in his career – which also saw spells at Blackpool, Queens Park Rangers, Manchester City and Cardiff.

Sinclair has picked no fewer than seven West Ham stars – including himself – in his best ever XI.

And he is joined by former West Ham teammates David James, Rio Ferdinand, Marc Vivien Foe (RIP), Michael Carrick, Eyal Berkovic and Paolo Di Canio.

Some eyes may be raised by the omission of the likes of Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Jermain Defoe.

But Sinclair has legendary striker Les Ferdinand up front. And he played alongside Ferdinand in his pomp at QPR and latter years at West Ham.

And Berkovic was simply sensational for West Ham in the time Sinclair first arrived at the club.

The team is completed with Ashley Cole at left-back from their time together with England, QPR legend David Bardsley at right-back and ex Man City star Richard Dunne at centre-back.

Yet more proof – if it were needed – of Sinclair’s strong West Ham affiliation.

Current West Ham side on course to eclipse Sinclair’s 98/99 team

West Ham’s Dimitri Payet inspired 2015/16 side bettered the 98/99 team’s points total but finished seventh.

Both could be eclipsed this season, though, with West Ham on course for their best season for 35 years.

And Jesse Lingard is emerging as the modern day Sinclair for the Hammers in terms of what he brings to the team.

Commenting on his best XI, Sinclair explained his selections.

“Foe and Carrick sit in, Bardsley and Cole join in down their side and the rest do the damage,” Sinclair said on Twitter.

When asked how he could overlook the likes of David Beckham and Paul Scholes having played with them for England, Sinclair responded: “It’s my team not yours.”
