The West Ham United players are rallying around Kurt Zouma behind the scenes according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old Hammers centre-back caused huge controversy when a video emerged on Monday night showing him kicking and slapping his pet cat.

The uproar surrounding Zouma increased ten-fold on Tuesday night when David Moyes selected the defender to start for West Ham against Watford at the London Stadium.

Since then, the club have fined the Frenchman two weeks wages (£250k) and those funds will be paid to various animal charities.

He has also had his cats taken away from him by the RSPCA, rightly so.

There are still calls for Zouma to face even more stringent sanctions. It really is a joke now. Everybody needs to move on. He made an awful mistake and will pay for the errors of his ways.

West Ham players rally round Zouma

The 27-year-old must be feeling lower than low at the moment. It has all been brought on by himself of course but there has to come a time when it’s agreed that the punishment fits the crime.

There is absolutely no excuse for what he did – it was an appalling act. But what’s done is done. We all need to move on together as a football club now.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the sense inside the Hammers’ squad is that the public backlash against Zouma has been over the top – and there is a feeling amongst his team-mates that they must rally round Zouma.

That’s good to know.

As mentioned previously, Zouma has been punished. And after all, we have all done things that we aren’t proud of throughout our lives.

Hopefully the former Chelsea man will learn from his inexcusable actions and end up being a better person because of the consequences he has faced.

As far as West Ham’s season is concerned, we still have so much to play for.

The Hammers are currently sitting in fourth spot in the Premier League table, we have an FA Cup fifth round clash with Southampton to look forward to at the start of next month and are in the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Zouma incident has seriously threatened to derail our season. Hopefully it has the opposite effect though. Perhaps the recent goings on will help instil a siege mentality at the London Stadium amongst the players.

And judging by the Daily Mail’s report, it seems as though that is exactly what is happening.
