West Ham United manager David Moyes has suggested that Jarrod Bowen is close to getting back to his very best.
Bowen, 25, has made a really slow start to the 2022/23 campaign and if we’re being honest, he has actually been very poor thus far.
The ex-Hull City ace, signed for £20 million in January 2020 (BBC), has failed to bag either a goal or an assist in the Premier League so far this season.
Bowen just looks out of shape and is nowhere near up to speed. The four-capped England international just hasn’t been sharp enough yet and getting him back to his best will be vital for David Moyes.
That’s exactly what the Scot was discussing last night…
David Moyes says West Ham ace Bowen nearly back to his best
The Scot was speaking to reporters yesterday about reasons why this season hasn’t kicked off in the way that everyone expected it would.
Obviously settling eight new signings into the club has been difficult, and it will take time for all of those players to gel.
The form of one of our best two players last year has been problematic for us as well.
But Moyes highlighted how he thinks he has noticed some bits about Bowen’s game that means he’s close to returning to his best, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I would say that I am just beginning to see Jarrod getting back to it. There are little bits coming back – there are signs of it. And if you think of last season, I said that after the Euros I thought Declan Rice was fantastic at the start of the season last year, whereas a lot of England players did not find their levels as much. So, it can happen. I think the international football – maybe the little rest time they get during the summer – can play a part in that. I am just beginning to see good signs from Jarrod and hopefully, I am right.”
Let’s hope that Moyes is right.
West Ham really need Bowen back and firing on all cylinders if we are to have any chance of enjoying a successful 2022/23 campaign on all fronts.
And the comments from West Ham boss David Moyes on Jarrod Bowen should give everyone at the London Stadium a lift.
