West Ham United are still embroiled in talks with Alphonse Areola regarding his proposed permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain.
That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who claims that the Hammers will exercise their £11 million option to buy Areola once personal terms have been agreed with the goalkeeper.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan with the Hammers.
David Moyes utilised the Frenchman primarily as our cup keeper last season. He played second fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski in the league but it’s clear to see that he is being primed to take over from the Pole as West Ham’s number one goalkeeper next term.
Areola was mighty impressive for West Ham when he played last season. He conceded just 15 goals in 18 appearances for the Hammers and kept eight clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).
Signing him permanently is surely an absolute no-brainer for David Moyes. It appears as though the board are haggling over the French World Cup winner’s wages, however…
West Ham still in talks with Areola
The 29-year-old PSG stopper still has seven or eight years left ahead of him at the very highest level.
Moyes absolutely must bring a top-class goalkeeper to the London Stadium this summer and we just need to pay Areola what he’s worth.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper currently earns £120k-a-week. It is doubtful that the Hammers will pay him anywhere near that kind of money.
And Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that West Hma are still in talks with Areola and his representatives…
Surely common ground will be found here. Areola is a truly elite goalkeeper.
David Moyes would be mad not to want the 29-year-old as his number one stopper next term.
Areola made the save of the season for West Ham during our Europa League clash with Sevilla at the London Stadium.
That save alone highlighted just how good he is.
Either way, it doesn’t really matter. West Ham just need to wrap up talks to sign Areola as soon as possible.
