Rodney Marsh calls out West Ham owners on Twitter

Rodney Marsh laid the gauntlet down to the West Ham owners on Twitter last night asking them whether they have the ambition to kick on.

The West Ham owners reappointed David Moyes as manager back in December 2019 when we were deeply embroiled in a relegation battle.

Incredibly, the Scot managed to turn things around at the London Stadium and guided West Ham to a sixth placed finish in the Premier League table in the 2020/21 campaign.

The Hammers subsequently qualified for the Europa League and we have performed unbelievably well in Europe this season.

West Ham have a Europa League quarter-final against Lyon to look forward to next week and we are still well in the race for a top six finish in the Premier League table this season.

The summer transfer window that lies ahead will be a hugely important one for the Hammers though. Will the West Ham owners – David Sullivan, David Gold and Daniel Kretinsky show they have genuine ambition to take this great club forward? Or will it be more of the same old, ‘we tried’ excuses?

David Moyes needs to sign at least six or seven top players this summer if the Hammers are to be competitive on all fronts next season, what with so many set to depart the London Stadium.

With Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky now on the board, there is no reason why Moyes should not be handed lavish funds in the summer transfer window.

It would be such a refreshing change to see Moyes given the money that he needs to sign the players he actually wants.

This summer will undoubtedly define the next four or five years for West Ham United and will play a huge role in our chances of winning a trophy during that time.

Rodney Marsh took to Twitter and asked the West Ham owners whether they are ready to back David Moyes to the hilt:

It’s a good question from Marsh.

West Ham are at a stage now where we will comfortably avoid relegation with minimal investment for a few years to come.

Moyes surely won’t hang around beyond next season, however, if the West Ham owners fail to back him in the transfer market.

Sullivan, Gold and Kretinsky all need to show us the colour of their money this summer. The Hammers are at a precipice and there are two ways from here that we could go.

Let’s hope and pray that Sullivan, Gold and Kretinsky are ready to take us on into a new era of success. The jury is still very much out on that though.
