Report makes bizarre West Ham free transfer claim

ESPN Brazil have run a bizarre report that West Ham could sign Luizao on a free transfer in January, and offer Sao Paulo a sell-on clause.

The Hammers have been linked with a move to sign the 20-year-old centre-back for quite some time now, by the likes of Jorge Nicola.

And Sao Paulo manager Rogerio Ceni has already confirmed that the Brazilian defender will leave on a free transfer in January.

Central defence is certainly an area at the London Stadium where David Moyes will want to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna are now 32 and 34 respectively, whilst the former has been heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium in January.

And Luizao would be a really interesting addition for us. There have been hugely conflicting reports concerning his future of late though.

And the latest one coming out of Brazil has only added to that uncertainty…

Report makes bizarre West Ham free transfer claim

ESPN Brazil have claimed that Sao Paulo are hopeful of getting a sell-on clause inserted into any deal that sees Luizao leave the club for West Ham.

Now, this makes no sense whatsoever. He is out of contract in January, so Sao Paulo have no right to be demanding any clauses in the deal.

We think that signing Luizao on a free transfer in January could end up being a really good move from West Ham.

Luizao might be totally unproven in the Premier League and very rough around the edges, but signing him on a free transfer would have negated the risks involved in the deal.

The 20-year-old is an aggressive young defender whose playing style is quintessentially South American, what with his tenacity and aggression.

He’s a very good tackler and is commanding in the air. It does seem as though Luizao has all of the attributes needed to succeed in England with West Ham.

West Ham signing Luizao on a free transfer actually seems like somewhat of a no-brainer doesn’t it.

If he isn’t up to the levels needed for Premier League football, then the Hammers can just move him on again. But if he turns out to be a star, signing him for nothing will end up looking like an absolute masterstroke from Moyes.
