Paul Merson wrote his regular column for the Daily Star and shared who he believes will finish higher out of West Ham and Tottenham this season.

The London Stadium will be bouncing and a win could see the Hammers jump inside the top four in the Premier League table, whilst leapfrogging Spurs in the process.

David Moyes’s side won last time out with an impressive 3-0 victory against Genk in the Europa League. Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men lost 1-0 against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.

If we are on our best form, we should be able to sweep Tottenham aside.

That statement in itself proves just how far West Ham have come under David Moyes.

Paul Merson on who will finish higher – West Ham or Tottenham

The former Arsenal man was writing his regular column for the Daily Star and suggested that the Hammers have now overtaken Spurs:

“West Ham have gone past Tottenham now. They’re the better team. And they will probably finish above them again this season. Things are changing in London. There’s a shift in the balance of power because Spurs and Arsenal are not what they used to be.”

Merson has hit the nail on the head here.

In all honesty though, we need to finish inside the top six for a good few years in a row before we can say we have truly overtaken our London rivals.

It’s clear that we’re not a one-season wonder.

Moyes’s side have to keep producing the goods, however, if we are to be considered as a genuine top-six side.
